Change upstairs front window

Hi folks, I would like to change an upstairs bedroom with a front facing window into a living room. I would like to drop the existing window to the floor, making a tall, wide window. There are no houses opposite, and all houses in my row vary - each is a different design.
Would I need planning permission for this? I assume that I would.
Would I be likely to get that planning permission? It would mean that the two windows in the front upstairs would be different shapes.
The reason I am hoping to do this, by the way, is preparation for a difficult time as I get older.
    Thanks.

    Yes.

    All depends on context.

If adjoining houses vary, and your proposal is reasonable, no reason why you would not get planning permission.

Thanks for that information. It sounds optimistic!
