Dodgy eBay seller - how to get refund

    Here's the story so far..
Used "Buy it now" on an ebay auction for a Fortnite skin. Paid via PayPal.
Seller has very low feedback (3) (I know, I know)

    Seller marked item as dispatched

Seller is claiming funds are "stuck in his PayPal account" and asking me to pay via online banking.

PayPal status that I can see is "Awaiting merchant confirmation"

Immediate alarm bells - almost sure the guy is a scammer

What do I do now in terms of refund /reporting the guy?

    Thanks Ed E
Should I message him again or is his request for paying outside of eBay enough?

I go straight to PayPal and open dispute, no messing around. Wasting your time imo talking to the seller.

I've had to do it twice in approximately 80 purchases

eBay's dispute process is terrible, and slow. You have to wait 2 weeks before it goes anywhere.

Go to Paypal and dispute the payment. Escalate it to a claim immediately, or as soon as you can as you may actually need to wait a day after entering the dispute.

Leave negative feedback for the seller to say he's asking for payment outside of eBay/Paypal, as a warning to others.

The money is being held because he’s a new seller, use eBay dispute first and then you can use PayPal as a back up, if you go straight to paypal they will ask if it’s an eBay item and send you back to eBay dispute

Thanks for that - I saw something around that but the seller had me spooked at that stage.

He refused a refund so I raised a PayPal dispute.
He refunded me within half an hour :)

Paypal will take the dispute, and won't send you back to eBay. If it's an eBay purchase, they already know this and have no need to ask you.
