Non eco showerhead

We had the bathroom redone recently and replaced a horrible looking 80s style valve and shower with a fancy new chrome thermostatic valve and shower. It looks great but flow is a fraction of the previous one. The system is pressurised with a 3.5bar pump, so there should be plenty of pressure available.

After doing some research it seems to be due to a restriction in the handset/showerhead in the name of water conservation. It seems to be built into the handset - there seems to be no way to disable it. Is it still possible to get an unrestricted handset?

This is the shower in question: https://www.sonasbathrooms.com/en/showers/thermostatic-shower-kits/puro-thermostatic-shower-kit.html

IF the shower was designed to give a eco flow rate of 6 LPM @ 0.5 bar then you should get ~ 13 LPM @ 2.5 bar from the 3.5 bar pump.
The pump is running with shower in service???
You should be able to remove the restrictor, can you post a picture?, can you run it without the shower head and see the flow and/or with the hose & shower head removed.

Many states in the US restrict the flow rate to 9 litres per minute by law. Other countries do likewise but usually the restrictor can be removed.

Another thing to think about is the bigger the shower head the less pressure. The bigger shower head gives the impression of less water than there actually is. You can test the flow rate with the shower head on. Put a mop bucket underneath & turn the shower on for 60 seconds. Then measure the amount of water you collected in the 60 seconds. You can do this by pouring the water from the bucket into a litre jug. This will tell you how many litres per minute you are getting.

Ok, the new handset does 5.5l/min. With just the bare hose it’s 16l/min.

I tried an old Mira handset I had in a different bathroom and it’s doing 12l/min and has that feeling that it might take the skin off your back. So I’m happy it’s the water saving handset that’s the problem. There is no removable restrictor - at least withou disassembling the handset and I don’t want to do that.

Can anyone recommend a handset that’s not going to be useless?

I like the Mira Showers 2.1688.001 360 m Shower Head. Several settings on it. I think I got mine from Amazon

Looks great, but fairly pricey. I think I’m worth it, but will discuss with the missus. I think I’ll keep the old Mira for now.
