The Kindergarten Teacher

Didn't see any other threads on this. Went to see it today, it stars Maggie Gyllenhaal as a frustrated kindergarten teacher who develops an unhealthy obsession with one of her pupils when she sees him create poems.

I thought it was interesting and unusual. It touched on quite a few themes- how quickly life seems to drift by, the short attention span of the modern world and our constant need for exterior stimulation, what does being proud of your children mean, where is the line between nurturing a talent and becoming creepy, etc etc. Gyllenhaal's performance is amazing and I found myself surprised that this seemed to be ignored at all of the awards ceremonies.

Definitely worth a look, although some people might find the pace too slow.

This was released on American Netflix last October, so I imagine many have already seen it.

Yeah I really liked it too. I didn't think I would but I did. I think mental illness is another theme of the movie given one character's increasingly erratic behaviour. I also thought the
poetry teacher was a real creep
