Lads, younger brother bought 10 Friesian bull calves (mad possibly time will tell), 2-4 weeks old, on milk replacer, 2 have watery scours and one has no interest in sucking but no scour and no sign of sickness. Any advice?

Treat the scouring ones take the temperature of the non drinker
How long does he have them
A visit from the vet is cheaper than a dead calf(that might not be true this year)
If they are worth buying they are worth minding

    Were they scouring coming ?
Is the milk definitely being mixed right ?
    Equipment being properly cleaned ?

How’s housing, clean with plenty of bedding ?

The one that’s it feeding check it’s temp. Give it 2l electrolytes twice daily.

Scouring calves 2l electrolytes, 30 minutes before milk feed, don’t withhold milk feed.

You could try 500ml natural youghert 4 table spoons kaolin powder, mix with warm water. Given before feeds. Works great for us.

Or get pink tablets from vet, don’t remember their name.

Best separate off sick calves from rest for fear it’s something that spreads.

Give the whole batch electrolytes. Could be the change in diet from whole milk to milk replacer along with the stress of the move may not have helped. Feed the scouring ones 4 to 5 times a day, 2 of milk and 3 of electrolytes. I Find effydral good and convenient. Horse the straw on to them as well and make sure the shed is ventilated without a draft around them

No scour when they landed, equipment cleaned after each feed. Housing airy with no draughts and well bedded. Gave them pink tablets this evening.

First thing you do is get a quick test. Your vet should have them they only cost about 5 euro. It tests for crypto, rota and ecoli. Once you get the results you'll know what your dealing with and we can give you specific advice.

Can you get them tests over the counter?
