Pps card

    Hey guys,

Hopefully this is the right place for my question. I've got a pps number about to expire. Since I informed my pps number for my new employer, I started to wonder what can happen if I don't get a new pps card on time. Do I still get my wages just the same or will they be put on hold until I get a new one? Plus, do I have to all the way there to get a new one or can I just order a new one online?

    Thanks for the help.

The cards expire, not the number.

But what happens when it expires? Do I still get my wages normally? Or will it be put on hold till I renew the card?

Nothing will change. Your PPS number stays with you for life. The card may expire but you don't need to to get paid.

How did you find out about the expiration? Is it your work permit and not your pps number that’s expiring?

    It says on the card.

Yeah, that's just the card expiration.

But I wonder why it expires. Is it used for anything else other than work?

Is that not your PSC Card, not the old PPS card which I don't think exists anymore?

You don't need a PSC Card if you're working

Maybe they are looking for proof of the number, but like others have said the card is only used for stuff like dole etc, driving licence (still?)

I don't even know what a psc card is? But I'd say it's an old PPS card. Got it done in 2012

I think it's still used for the licence,. I've seen some threads relating thrm both before

There's a public services card you have to use to collect your dole now. Your pps number doesn't change, it's like your indentity number, you have it for life and probably after.

Is there an email that I could write to just to double check this? Just in case

You could maybe email the welfare but don't expect an answer.
Everyone is telling the truth - the PPS number is used for everything and never changes - revenue, banks, welfare etc etc

Okay alright. I'll believe you all hahaha
I just didn't want to be waiting for weeks to get a new one, yano? Especially coz I foresee large sums of money being spend this Sunday hahaha
Thanks for all the help tho. Pretty efficient ppl here.

Send an email to Welfare and the Department is Client Identity Services
    The email address is cis@welfare.ie

You should have received a letter advising you what to do to renew.
Have you changed address & not informed client identity services?
Are you on a work permit?
Either way you should contact Public Services Card Helpdesk at 1890 837000

Your pps number is with you for life. The card is just a card and like other identity cards the picture can go out of date.

If he's not availing of Welfare why would he need to contact them, change of address etc is nothing to do with them.
If in the future he does need to avail of the services he can notify them then of the new address

Who said anything about welfare? It’s used to access public services e.g. drivers licence, passport, revenue on line etc.

If they don’t have his/her correct address the renewal instructions will go to whatever address is on their records.

No, they will go to whatever address you give on the application or tell them
Revenue don't care about the card, driving licence dont/wont care and never had about the address, passport dont even see the card. - all they care about is the PPS number and that has no bearing on what address Welfare on its books

    Things have changed!
I fail to see why you are bringing social welfare into the equation. It’s a public services card.

Again, if client identity services don’t have the correct address the letter they issue will go to whatever address is on their records - so arguing the toss won’t change that fact. I’m not here to argue - I simply provided the OP with the card heldesk phone number.

I am with the work permit now. I wasn't back then, tho. I don't think I ever changed my address there. I did inform the revenue office tho. But I don't know if those two are linked in any way.
