Lying in bed in profile picture

    Hey Guys,

A very minor one but I'd like some thoughts nonetheless. Generally speaking, if a guy has a picture of his head on a pillow in one of his online dating pictures, should you take that as an indication of his intent? Does that mean he's clearly showing you his hand.. i.e. he's just looking for fun?

To be honest though, it's such a minefield that even the most sincere looking guys can be just after one thing too. Nothing wrong with that but just wondering if that's a sign? I don't mean lying on the bed shirtless, it's just his head on a pillow and you can't even see his shoulders or anything. He's far from naked.

Just looking for thoughts. God, I absolutely despise online dating :(

I'm recently single and thought I was done with apps.

    Cheers.

I've thought the same thing OP... I automatically dismiss these guys as options cos I take the assumption that they are just looking for the ride. But maybe I'm wrong... I'd be curious to hear other responses!

I agree online dating is hard... At least if you meet someone by chance in real life you can get a bit of a sense of them in person. All the swiping and messaging and having similar conversations over and over... I find it quite unexciting really :(

Guy here. I wouldn’t post that myself, but I’d read it as more “Oh this is me just looking casual, I woke up like this” than what you’re saying. I wouldn’t read too much into profile pictures and the like unless they’re gratuitous. Guys especially tend to be less selfie heavy so he may just not have had a better picture to hand, or he could’ve wanted to put up a recent one, you’ve no way of knowing so give your head peace and don’t try read into it. Judge the content of what he says instead.

    Agree with the advice above.

At the risk of making a sweeping generalization, most guys I know will put very little thought into the context of such a picture as long as they are looking half decent in it, while the majority of women I know will hum and haw endlessly about the same, including what the background of the image may be saying, etc.

Not saying that there is anything wrong with taking care with the finer details, but most men (in my experience anyway) will simply use a pic which they have handy in which they think they look well.

It may be a simple case of he was lying in bed setting up/updating his profile. Took the photo and uploaded it. I don't think there's any hidden meaning in it.

If you like the look of him why not contact him? If you then decide you're not interested you don't ever have to see him/contact him again.

    Hi Op

if a girl posts a profile picture that shows a bit of cleavage does that means shes only looking for sex?

    It cuts both ways.

When I was online I never messaged or answered messages from guys with topless photos or bed selfies. Hugely cut down on the amount of sleazy messages I got.

And yup if I was a bloke and a girl's photo was very sexy I wouldn't message her either.

You could go on dates with him and not ride him. He’ll lose interest pretty fast if that was the intent.

You're reading something into nothing. It's like saying that a guy who has a bathroom mirror selfie is a clean freak or a guy who has a wardrobe in his picture is trying to tell you he's in the closet.

It's a comfortable place to pose. Why not take a selfie in bed?

Most lads don't agonise over profile pcitures. As another poster says, most just pick one they think they look well in.

I'm not reading into anything, I was just looking for opinions. From my experience, guys who pose topless tend to end up being a bit sleazy. I went on the date with him anyway and he looked nothing like his pictures so it's no longer on my mind even but thanks to all who replied.
I will never understand people posting old photos, what is the point!! If you don't look like that then don't post it and waste everyone's time!
