The latest is that details are still emerging.

Is it my imagination or are there lots more murders in Ireland lately? It seems every second day they find a body or someone being shot.

It’s being referred to as ‘tragic’, doubt there looking for anyone else.

It's a bit of an eerie town, never warmed to the place myself.

I wonder if anything has been confirmed or if we should speculate?

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy has said that they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the deaths, which indicates a murder-suicide. A man aged 38, a woman aged 37 and a girl aged 15 were all found dead in the apartment in Glin Ree court at approximately 11 this morning after relatives became concerned.

A local politician has said that he was informed that the deaths were violent and that when the details come out that people will be shocked...
    That's terrible.

I have absolutely nothing against people who commit suicide or have suicidal tendencies, having experienced both suicide attempts among people I love and briefly contemplated the same exit route for myself in the thankfully distant past. But my sympathy drops below zero when someone who commits suicide decides to take others with them. It doesn't matter if you believe that someone else's life won't be worth living without you (wtf?) or that people who are dependent on you won't be able to survive without you, you do not have the right to take the choice away from another person and make it for them.

Mental health issues or not, people who choose to take others with them when they decide to leave this world, without giving them a choice in the matter, are people I will never be able to share in the condolences for. Maybe that's harsh, but I find it hard not to regard suicides which are combined with murders of other people as pure scumbaggery.

The PSNI have said that there is an international element to the case, indicating that they were foreign. I heard earlier that some of the apartments are rented and a few foreign families lived there.
Ease up a bit. No need to get obsessed with it.

Very sad, but no one knows who killed whom etc.

Anyway, it seems it is interfamilial I think.

Colombians, according to TV3. Whatever the story is, it's obviously tragic, may they rest in peace.

Slightly unrelated to the OT, but as a non-irish living in Newry I have to disagree. Nice enough place with lovely people. Never had any Issues here, unlike in Dublin where I lived for many years in the early 2000s.

    It’s a murder suicide.

you would sacrifice your own life to protect your family

    Not take them with you

    Unforgivable

BTW DSi Murphy said they haven't identified cause of death - could they not announce the preliminary cause?

You don't quite grasp how things work, do you? Procedures must be followed and things must be done correctly. They don't go speculating to satisfy your morbid curiosity. And also keep in mind that the deceased may have other family members.

I doubt there is anything that can be done to stop such murderous violence in a private home. Sadly. It has happened so many times here as we know.

But the knife crime and so many deaths in London and elsewhere is really something else now.

Family and friends of the deceased could be on boards, but some arseholes on here would rather win internet points with guesses and speculative horse****tery, pathetic, cop on to yourselves.

It is the nature of the game to speculate.

That does not mean that people are insensitive either.

Newry became a city in 2002. A bit of trivia, it's actually the closest city to Dublin

Don't have the stats to hand, but no; murder rates increased a lot in the 1990s and 2000s, but we're back at 1940s rates now.

You just hear it reported a lot more i reckon.

Very sad case. See a photo of the mother & daughter, both beautiful. Strange how they're keeping us in the dark with the man.

These stories are beyond horrible. Kill yourself, you bloody barbarian, and leave the others alone. If I see one word in the media about mental health troubles, stress or excuses! These murderers should be utterly villified to publicly stigmatise the crime for others who might be inspired. There's not enough good old fashioned stigma going round anymore.

Browsing through the daughter's instagram page. Some sad clips of her and her mother having fun. Nothing of the man though. Wonder what brought a Colombian woman to Newry via Spain, to cross paths with a Scotsman? Some inappropriate clips of her dancing in very little too, not sure why the mother would allow her to post that.

Newry (and Lisburn) got their city status - and I'm not joking here - in a raffle of some description.
