just back from nct and drive bmw 5 series that just failed on rear suspension system.
    Dangerous link condition worn.
Any motorheads here know what part it could be?
I'm thinking maybe a tie rod or something.

Part that really pissed me off was he put a big dangerous to drive sticker on the inside of my car to the windscreen with some very hard sticky residue that was left on the windscreen.
I went back inside and demanded he take every bit of it off now or ill report damage to my car in which his boss told him take off.
Took him a bit of time but he did it the auld prick.
Had some kind words with him and his boss at the end and kindly told them to stick those stickers up their hole from now on.
Going for a second opinion now on my rear suspension.

So your car is dangerous but you criticise him for alerting you to this?
Do you disbelieve them about the condition given that they won't gain from disclosing a dangerous issue?

As for the issue, he has told you (dangerous link condition worn). Now you need to get a mechanic to properly identify the cause(s) and resolve them (the NCT documentation wont be specific because if there's one dangerous suspension issue then its likel that there could be more). We can't guess from here. It could be a drop link, a ball joint and so on.
It's your issue to keep your car roadworthy. If the sticker experience angers you rather than you being pissed off driving a dangerous vehicle then maybe you shouldn't be driving!

Oh ok - I thought that you meant that you're getting a second opinion when you said "going for a second opinion now on my rear suspension." but obviously I'm mistaken

    Good starting point!

I'm quite sure that this has never happened but look forward to you proving me wrong.

You should be questioning why your mechanic did not spot the issue when it was last serviced.
You do pay to have it properly serviced, don't you? Then again, sure isn't that just a money making racket?

The whole point of the sticker is to make it clear that the car is dangerous so that you don't drive around with it. It's actually a criminal offense to drive around with a car deemed to be dangerous.

Your insurance might be voidable too.

    Of course it is.

Everyone grumbles and moans about the NCT. I was pissed off at them for consistently failing a slightly misaligned head lamp but if they fail it because it's dangerous, that's a different story.

Don't they also notify the local Gardai that a car has a dangerous fail and has been illegally driven away from the test centre?

I think they reserve the right to do it but it's not something done by default.

It's not the mechanic's fault. There would be certain critera that cause a fail dangerous.

OP, you will get no sympathy from me.

Thread closed as possible trolling and/or displaying terrible uncivility towards NCT staff.
