Job hunt issues

Looking for accountant role in South Dublin. I have 2 years post qualified experience. I have found the hunt very hard. Recruitment consultants have been very frustrating. I work in a role whereby there is zero tolerance policy re using mobile in business hours. Recruitment consultants cannot seem to understand this. And then, if offered interview opportunity, I am expected to interview at short notice. They cannot seem to understand that I have to arrange leave with boss. I am finding having a job a major issue to getting new job. Has anybody been in similiar frustrating situation?

Can you arrange calls on your lunch break? Before or after work?
Recruiters can start as early as 8am and work after 6pm - a good recruiter will make time

I think you need to start putting yourself first.

Usually I would say respect the company rules, but if the company is so strict they are preventing you from getting a new job, then you need to bend the rules.

If offered an interview, call in sick.

Or better yet, arrange two days off next week, and make sure all your interviews are done during those two days.

When you notice a missed call, immediately go to the toilet and call them back.

You need to make it work. It's possible.

Had a call from recruitment consultant Monday during work. I took the call. Consultant was looking to finalise date and time for my interview with client. Managing director happened to walk past and signalled for my attention re a task. I apologised to recruiter and said I had to go but would chat again. Since that moment, he has ignored me. Ignored callbacks and emails. The word dickhead springs to mind.

He no longer needs you so he doesn't care about you.

His customers are the companies, not the jobseekers, so he has tunnel vision regarding making money.

It's unnecessary though, he could just do a quick call and say he has nothing for you.

Completely agree, along with your second post OMM - recruiters don't work for you and they don't owe you, the job seeker, anything. If you weren't using recruiters and were instead applying directly for jobs, would you expect a hiring manager to take the time to call you or meet you for interviews only after the end of their working day? I'm not saying it doesn't happen or that companies will never be flexible - it does happen and some will be flexible, you can only ask - but the reality is if you want to work for a company you more than likely are going to have to go through recruitment processes on their terms.

It's your job search so take control. Fair enough you don't want to upset the applecart in work, but if you want to leave and you're missing out on opportunities, you just need to decide what's more important.

You don't need a recruitment company. You're an accountant in industry with experience, you know the names of the accounting firms and consultancies. Go onto their website, find the careers section and apply yourself. Cut out the waffling middle man.
