Dublin exhaust repair

    Hi.

I have a rusty exhaust that leads to the backbox of my VW Golf. I have NCT test coming up soon and I do not want my car to fail on the emissions. I am guessing the exhaust pipe needs to be cut out and new one fitted so I was wondering where could I find a decent garage to get the job done (Dublin area)? I also need to get the backbox removed to make the car sound a bit more agressive. How much would a job like this cost and would I have to supply the parts myself?

These days exhaust parts are not expensive but welding cost load of money. May be it is cheaper to buy the parts of exhaust than mess with old and rusty section.
Do you want to biggest reason why the exhaust rust? Because you driving only the short distances. Every distance are short if it takes less than 1 hour.

EDIT: It is illegal to remove the muffler. Even if you remove it, you need to reprogram the car computer. So it is not so simple, remove and done.

Ok, well I would prefer to replace the rusty part with a new pipe of course. :)

You don't weld an exhaust unless you are bodging up an old one to make it last a bit longer or are fitting the wrong parts.

The original exhaust will probably be all in one piece, the replacement parts will be in sections so you have to cut into the original exhaust to fit the new section. Either the new section will have a flanged end that will fit over the old cut pipe and is held on by a ring clamp or you use a connector specific to the diameter of the exhaust pipe.

Replacement is very very easy with the right tools once the car is up on a ramp. There is even a tool that takes seconds to cut the old exhaust pipe, no need to take all the old exhaust off an no messing around with hacksaws or angle grinders.

I got 2 parts/sections of mine done recently, it was around 350 i think all in. The sound since is awful, so much so that last week I finally had someone else look at it to see what the hell had actually been done.
Seems like it was fitted properly and well, but obviously just spurious parts and therefore the sound is poor.
I absolutely hate the noise out of it now, its dreadful. But the car is not worth the hassle of spending more on it.

Don't work for them or have any interest in them other than they've always given me good service...

I think I would have to replace the whole center section, am I right? Also, would anyone know where I can order the original parts?

Is it leaking or just rusty - doesn’t look too bad to me.

If its not leaking then leave it until it does.

I normally use mister-auto.ie for VW parts the dot ie means nothing all the parts ship from Europe often Germany. Price is normally good but delivery times can be like 10 days.

There was a slight change of sound coming from the exhaust but I didn't notice anything else.

But also, I was wondering what could be done with the backbox? I only want to make the sound slightly louder, just for myself like, I don't want to be a ricer of course. I'll probably get some hate for asking this. Don't get why people get so mad.
