Land Registration

I recently cleared a mortgage and received the title documents from the building society.

It was interesting to read the ownership history of the house, but wondering what to do with the file now. I have just checked on Land Direct and note that the house/land is not registered, so I guess that the title documents are important.

Is there an option to register the title?
Is there a need to do so?

Just a bit concerned that I have a box of vulnerable paperwork in my house and that I should be doing something to safeguard them as I would imagine they are difficult / very costly to replace, assuming that they can be replaced?

Any advice/ pointers would be appreciated.

    LeGaro.
