AIB - Direct Deposit Access Account

My folks have received a letter from Aib regarding a direct access account (account is over 10 years old).

Without any explanation as to why, they have been informed that they are removing access to this account and my folks have 2 options:

    Open another aib account.

Close account and move to another.

    Is this a usual practice?

Is this just forcing them to move to an account that they can be charged more for?

Should they just adhere to the banks instruction or is there something worth challenging here.

They're not getting charged anything for a deposit account atm nor would they be if they switched to another savings account.

AIB are obviously streamlining the products they offer and are removing that account, 'challenging' it isn't going to get you anywhere.

It's simply AIB cleaning up legacy products / reducing the number of savings products. Nothing to be concerned about.

Did they used to be with Anglo Irish Bank and get transferred to AIB?
