Looking for recommendations please. Need replacement car, travelling approx 800km per week to work, mainly bad secondary roads. Need 5 door for kids at weekend. Must be economical to run.
Previous car was 06 diesel corolla with 265k on clock, running costs approx 40 euro per week so looking for something similar. Budget 8k.
Any recommendations for what car might suit? Stick with diesel for economy? Any recommendations for where to buy from? Not much in local garages for my price range.

2012 facelift d4d avensis could be a good shout too. Clean well minded ones in a good spec can be got if you spend a while looking.

Base spec ex taxis are best avoided.

Another one here for an Avensis. I'd actually recommend an T4 Tourer Estate also 2012 onwards with kids. Cant beat dealer servicing either - Toyota doing 2 years servicing (1 major + 1 minor) and 1 years roadside assistance for €299. If you cant find one with reasonable mileage go down the import route.

There’s not many cars that will do 71mpg average on bad roads. I couldn’t even get that out of Corolla diesels in a straight line.

Yes, I will miss that car and the economy! It was a 1.6 litre engine and I purposely started and finished work early to avoid the stop/start traffic which must have helped with the running costs. Not much available with my budget, only 2011 corollas seem to hitting the price mark. Would prefer 2012 year for that price.
