7 Hour Connection in Frankfurt

    Hey all,

My flight outbound for my trip to Thailand has been changed from an evening flight (1 hour connection) to a noon flight (7 hour connection).

Obviously this means I've now got a lot more spare time in Frankfurt.

Anyone any suggestions on ways to pass the time? Is it worthwhile looking to get a lounge pass to while away a few hours, or is there any particular activity to recommend?

    Thanks a million :)

Frankfurt is very dull. You've certainly time to drop bags at left luggage, get a train into town, have a bite to eat in the old main square (which is nice, but it's all that's left of the old town) and head back into the airport.

Not a massive amount else to do to pass the time unfortunately

Yeah, anything I've read online seems to be recommending getting out of the airport if you have a long connection! Some though say a lot of Frankfurt is shut on Sunday, which is when my flight is! Still, you would have to think there'll be somewhere to eat open :)

There's a paulaner pub just by the main square in Romer, which is the area where the old town mentioned above is. It does some really good beer and good food. It's generally busy on a Sunday. It's not too far from the main train station. The walking tour also starts in this area if you happen to get lucky with the times.

There's nowhere else really in the city that I would recommend. If u are a bit worried on time there's a nice Mexican close to the main train station but I can't think of the name. It's not the nicest area around there so watch your wallet but it's not bad enough to need to avoid during the day.

With a layover that long you could go to Mainz or Wiesbaden.

On similar lines to the Wiesbaden/Mainz suggestions but might be worth just going to Bad Homburg. Kinda boring but pleasant old town with nice park/old restaurant area: less stress and more accessible for a few hours than a shutdown Frankfurt and at least you'd get a nice meal/walk in nice park/old town without the city uncertainties. Frankfurt centre seems to have gotten rough last few years.

Was in Frankfurt for a weekend last year, it's insane but it really does shut down on Sundays. Walking down the equivalent of Grafton St and not a single shop open.

If your flight is at noon you may struggle to get food that early in the morning that's not a fast food type chain restaurant but really can't be sure. Sorry

Sachsenhausen might be worth a stroll around. The park along the river too is very nice. Might not be alot open, as said, but better use of time than sitting in an airport imo.

If you gave yourself 4 hours you could have a nice stroll and bite to eat. (Even McDonald's was closed on a Sunday when I was there, but there were places open for food, restaurants etc, you'll come across them by chance).

The ECB is an impressive building too and with Sachsenhausen across the river, it's a good mix of new and old.

There's a very nice Therma in Hofheim Am Taunus, about 15 minutes from FRA. But yes, everything is closed on a Sunday but there would be restaurants and bars open in the Bahnhofs and Airport.
