Has anyone been to the only rapid charger in Waterford recently? It has been marked as 'inaccessible' for a few months now.

I heard that the owner of the garage is sick to the back teeth of EV drivers moaning to him and he's going to have it removed. I know he has had arguments with drivers speeding up to the charger. It is a tight and busy approach, so this wouldn't be a shock.

It'll be a pity if Waterford loses it's only rapid charger.

Not correct. He's quite happy with the charger other than someone with a Kangoo charging at the AC43 for 5 hours at a time.

I was more thinking it would be a good name for a basketball or ice hockey team.

He was not always though, he bolted a bench infront of it before he was paid off.

It was posted before about why garages wouldnt all install chargers. I can see plenty of reasons why.

This specific charger was mentioned a few times on facebook. One person if I remember was pulled up by the manager for dangerous driving around the garage.

I don't see any advantage to a garage, especially with the attitude of some drivers. You can imagine a garage with people coming in and out all day complaining because someone abondoned car at charger...do they actually see much revenue from it?? probably not.

It would only make sense if they are taking a cut from the cost of charging the car....like they make money off diesel...

At the moment I guess it is just an inconvience.

I tend to end up buying something when I stop for a rapid charge, but to be fair in garages it does tend to just be an icecream or a bottle of water.

Have found myself eating at Supermacs/KFC a lot more frequently the last 12 months though, beside chargers in Lusk/Carlow etc., so I'd say these guys definitely make a few quid from having chargers onsite.

It's working despite saying inaccessible. But the ac43 had an out of service sign on it last time I was there.

I used the CCS Saturday with no issues.
Although the charger did not seem the healthiest, screen was showing no signal but ecars could start it.

Is there anywhere in Ireland with more than one charger?

No. And a lot of people don't seem to know that even on the most common chargers like the above EFACEC pretty unreliable triple head chargers only one car can fast DC charge at a time.

Thankfully Ionity chargers are coming very soon. 6 cars can charge at the same time. CCS only though, so a Nissan Leaf won't be able to charge there.

Technically the new Audi dealerships could be classed as more than one as they are able to charge up to 6 at once but apparently are only for Audi customers.
Also you could say the Tesla supercharger sites but again it's not available to other users.

First Ionity site should open within a matter of weeks? 6 cars should be able to DC fast charge at the same time.

I think they had a strop on when an eGolf charged there during the week.
    It was on FB.

A relative of mine used it on Sunday evening, no issues. Not sure why it’s marked as “inaccessible” on the app, seems odd...

I absolutely knew exactly which charger the OP was talking about, despite only having to charge once in Waterford a few years ago while shooting a Golf GTE.

The owner was out almost straight away to complain about the charger, its users and that he was going to have it removed. It must have been three and a half years ago at this stage, and while he wasn't lambasting me, I think he just wanted everyone to know he was annoyed with it. Strange individual.

I called Ecars and asked what the story was. The fella looked at the charger on the system and said 'strange' and promptly removed the inaccessible comment.
