Hi we bought a house recently, it’s around 20 years old. We are putting in a patio door from the kitchen to the back garden and we’re hoping to put in a door with a grey frame. The rest of the house has brown pvc wood effect windows. As the house is 20 years old we decided to run with grey& when the windows need to be replaced in the future they could match the new door frame.

Just noticed however on our planning it states that windows need to be of “solid hardwood timber”. Does this condition matter if it’s 20 years ago?

Yes as it's a planning condition and therefore technically what you're proposing would require a planning application. You could write to the Council to see if they would be ok with your proposal and would they be still enforcing that condition.

If the planning says solid hardwood windows and the existing windows are actually pvc then it seems like the condition has already been ignored.

(Not sure if it's a good idea to point this out in any request to change the condition though!)

technically it does, but that condition is WAY out dated at this stage....

this is a case of better looking for forgiveness than permission IMHO
