CV boot clips failing

I recently replaced a snapped CV boot clip on my GF's car. I bought a bundle of ear type clips off of ebay and a decent pliers from the local motor factor. I've had to replace two snapped clips in the last week. Both have failed where they are pinched by the pliers. I think it's both a product of poor quality clips and also my DIY status.... the NCT is next week so I need to have it right. I've searched for people using jubilee clips and haven't seen anything recent on them passing the NCT. I've had a car through before with a cable tie, but this isn't a great solution.

My plan is to check the boot, clean any grease around the clip surface, make sure it's not too stretched (towards the gearbox) or too compressed (towards the hub) and jubilee clip it making sure it can rotate without catching on anything around the knuckle...

can anyone offer some hard fact??

My girlfriends car passed with a jubilee clips (two or three locked into each other)
I was surprised they passed it tbh like you I to get a proper clip on for the reinspection but couldn’t so botched it together with the jubilee clips. It was actually about 3 years ago I did that and it has passed every nct since.

You have a answer - ebay.

EDIT: Do you have a special tool or using the regular pliers?

I have the correct tool, and it crimps it correctly. Thing is they just crack later. Did a quick check there and it seems the clips I have are 0.5mm thick - an apparent 'quality' item is 0.8mm.

@Ebay - that may be the answer alright. I thought I was buying UK made, must check that order again... china china china

I've some decent ones sourced from a reputable factors for later. Hopefully problem solved

You are right, bit thicker are better.
