Gas to Air-to-water Heatpump

Living in a semi-d, 5 bedroom houe, 12 radiators currently on gas main supply.

Gas boiler needs replacing and so considering alternatives.

I don't want to just assume that I should just get a gas boiler.

Would an air to water heat pump be an option for a 17 year old timber frame house that was designed to use gas?

    In my opinion,
The capital cost of a heat pump would kill your return on investment vs the running costs of a new gas boiler on mains gas.

    How costly are the pumps?

About €8000 for pump with cylinder I would say. Plus you may need to upgrade your radiators to work with a heat pump. There's a grant of upto €3500 from the SEAI but you need to get your house assessed first and then carry out any recommended upgrades.
