    Hi people.

I received a letter from Revenue in January informing me of a PAYE check for 2017, knowing about these I posted both P60's along with all our health expenses.

Today I received a letter demanding these documents so I phoned up and explained that I sent them allready but the person got fairly sour on the phone saying I should have sent it by registered post and it's my problem to sort it or they will take action!

I was very polite and courteous during the entire conversation as I know what they are like!

Any advice on how to sort this?

    Thanks.

You'll have to ask your employer for copies of the P60s, try and get duplicates of the health expense receipts etc.

If Revenue haven't received them, they can't verify your claim, and will likely withdraw the relief granted. That's down to the post office losing the documents.

I wouldn't bother sending them P60's. They have those details from the P35L that you employer(s) would submit, so perhaps just send details of your employers and let them look it up themselves.

Probably a good idea to keep copies (or just take pictures on your phone) of anything you submit...

Bear in mind that there tends to be a delay in dealing with post in Revenue...the original submission may still be in the pipeline. It can take them a month or more to reply to an email so you never know what kind of delay you might expect for snail mail....

All documentation Revenue receives is scanned, as soon as it is opened, onto a central database, so that if you call Revenue then the caseworker on the phone will be able to refer to it. It's very unlikely to have been lost by Revenue. If the stuff was lost in the post then you need to get in touch with An Post.

I used to work in PAYE in Revenue.

If a customer mentioned sending something by Registered Post, I always said 'no, there's no need'. It was expensive, and completely unnecessary, in my opinion and experience.

(I have occasionally posted some important correspondence myself, and the Post Office gave me a 'proof of postage' receipt, which costs nothing).

I'm aghast to hear a Revenue staff member thinks customers should be using Registered Post!
