I use an apple lightning to 30 pin adapter with my cars infotainment system, have always done and have 3 cars which use the same interface with scorsche charging adapters.

Since updating my iphone 7 to iOS12 , the charging through this adapter no longer works, all 3 vehicles with genuine apple adapters, audio and control features still working but no charging.

will charge from 0-3% like non genuine charges do.

I know they discontinued the adapter but this is a genuine apple product and has no technical reason not to work.

I have one that still works. Is it possible the issue is elsewhere? Try using it with a normal USB power brick. Do you have an old ipod/iphone with 30 pin connector so you can check that part?

I used mine with my iPhone XS and iPhone 6s. Both on iOS12 and both work.

Make sure you unlock the device after you plug in.

I think maybe what TBi says here could be key to the issue you are experiencing, Eric.
I noticed that after the iOS 12 release last year, my “i” devices started acting a bit differently if I tried charging from the USB of a computer depending on whether or not the computer was powered on. If the computer is powered off, the iPhone, for example, seems to treat the USB charge much like a wall charger: ie. it charges without needing to unlock the iPhone.
If the computer is powered on it doesn’t charge until I unlock the iPhone, and every couple of days asks if I want to trust this computer and asks for my passcode as well to enable this trust.

I believe these measures were introduced in iOS 12 as part of the tightening of security of the lightning port related to “hack boxes” being sold which could bypass/unlock the passcode/touchID/faceID when plugged in via the lightning port.
As you say it’s only iOS 12 devices affected, I’d suspect your trouble with your adapter might be related to this, so it’s definitely worth checking to see if unlocking when you plug into this adapter makes a difference.
