What Watch - Up to €200

Spending others' money is always fun :D

Some of the questions I would always consider:
New or second hand? - because that 200 budget can stretch to a 500 euro watch perhaps. To be set against potentially higher maintenance fees (I just spent 700 euro on restoring an Omega quartz of all things :D ).

Any "gaps" in your collection you wish to fill? Looking at your list I don't see (m)any dress watches - don't see the need or don't like a simple 3 hander worn with a shirt/suit kinda situation? Some people like the look of a Tissot 3 hander (or the Chinese/Japanese equivalent).

Some ideas to toss out (besides the divers in your link):
Tissot Le Locle (used) - 3 hander with date - or similar Japanese/Chinese new mechanical watch.

Casio Pro-trek (new/used) - I see you have no aversion to quartz - while I enjoy wearing my mechanicals I also have a few niche quartzs - this is one of them - for when I'm trekking volcanos and scuba diving (currently wearing it through Indonesian jungles) and enjoy having a compass/barometer/thermometer/200m wr/alarm/stopwatch/world time piece strapped to the arm - my titanium solar/atomic time version was bought second hand for around 100 euro. I think new the rubber versions can go for around 200 on sale.

I'm sure there are others who can suggest nice new pieces under 200 but I'm a big proponent for buying 2nd hand (especially quartz pieces which have less to go wrong/need servicing so less of a gamble when buying used).

Have fun - half the fun is finding the right piece for yourself :D
    Hey Folks,

I want to get a new watch but have no idea what to get. There's no real list of wants so I'm quite open to anything. I'm maybe thinking about adding a different brand to the collection more than anything. My collection includes the following:

    Seiko Flightmaster - SNA411
    Seiko Diver - SKX009
    Seiko Chrono - SNN079P2
    Seiko 5 - SNKH27
    Citizen Chronograph - BM8475-00X
    Timex Expedition - T49828
    Timex Chronograph - T49905
    Invicta Pro Diver 8926OB
    Casio G-Shock - DW-5600E
    Casio G-Shock - GX-56BB-1ER
    Casio Marlin - MDV106
    Parnis 55mm

That's all I can recall but the bulk of it. So a reasonably varied collection. I was thinking of perhaps picking up an Orient or another Citizen as I just have the one in the collection.

Any suggestions? I have these on a shortlist:

Coincidentally all divers but it doesn't have to be.

I hear you about buying second hand but I'm time short these days so would prefer to buy new. Definitely not against a dress watch and I quite fancy the idea of one some day, just not sure if that's now. I wouldn't have any occasion to wear one, work is quite casual etc and I like watches around the 40mm mark as a minimum.

If you are thinking Orient then a Bambino is hard to beat. They come in a multitude of dial colours and styles. Can pick them up for 150 squids or so. My favourite is the blue dial version.

As per usual, I'm going to ignore anything that was asked or suggested and come in from left of field (non-Russian this time):D

so I'm just leaving this here for you:

What about a vostok? Hundreds from under €200. Might want to factor in a new band price for the ones under €100

    Ones I like:

I have a Mako XL that I'd be willing to let go for about €75. Good nick, orange face.

There's a few Citizen atomic-sync watches in the €200 range.

I used to think that I had good taste. I ended up buying this:

I like the size, the look of the dial and the claimed 300m water resistance. Plus the price is attractive too.

I've kinda redeemed myself though as I've agreed to buy the below from another Boardsie:

I kinda feel like I am. I'm a terrible terrible impulse buyer and watches are something I'm able to hoard. Sure they're small and don't take up much space.

    Help me.

I like the orange orient. But if you photoshopped the names around I'd say I like the blue orient. That's how fickle I am.

The watch arrived today and there was no custom charges which was nice. On a very brief first glance it seems quiet tasteful actually (for an Invicta)... will add some photos later.

Silly crown guard aside I have to say I think it looks quite nice in the flesh. On that topic it looks like it's easily removable. It's a huge watch at 46mm and very weighty. I can't seem to find specs on the weight but it's a toss up between this and the Mako XL which is 195g as to which of them is the heaviest on the wrist. This might possibly edge the Mako.

For $99 excluding shipping and with no customs being collected I feel I certainly can't complain, it was a bit of an impulse as I had really been set on a Citizen but it's certainly delivered. Yes I wish they wouldn't etch silly things such as 'Invicta' or 'Grand Diver' onto the side of the case but that's a minor quibble really.
