Current Cattle prices and Brexit?

From looking at this weeks Journal and chatting neighbours who have sold weanlings in recent weeks you would never think we were possibly on the verge of the decimation of Beef prices through a hard or no deal Brexit.
Based in Leitrim here, one neighbour sold top quality Goldie Char heifer weanlings in Mart a fortnight ago, calves approx year olds and 350kg+......got from 900 to 1250 for them.He was saying that from talking to regulars in Mart, the same calves were worth €100 less each only a month or 6 weeks ago!
Another neighbour is in mart every week for pastime and says quality forward Store bullocks have jumped in price in last fortnight.

With the UK govt now threatening to tariff our Beef exports out of the market I would have thought farmer customers would have being slower to give big prices for young stock in light of fact Brexit one way or the other will be sorted soon?

What do people think is behind current positive trade?......Journal mentioned the fact there’s abnormally high covers of grass on farms from the mild winter but we have had Springs like this before as well without strong prices for Stock.

Ps~ meant to post this as a thread so sorry for long post;)

    Moved it for you BL.

High covers and early spring is some of it, also I think lads might be thinking what sort of cattle will be wanted on the continent instead of the UK market down the road. I think round here anyway suckler numbers have dropped so quality lots are scarcer.

Another factor up in Leitrim is they might have been bought to go North before the border closes.

There's a lot of talk today about a 2 year extension to Article 50.

So that should put the pressure on the back burner for a while.

No deal Brexit will never happen. No majority in the House of Commons for any such act of folly.
Meanwhile the stupid fukwards in the DUP must be sh1tting themselves ......

Would there be still some BPS burning a hole in lads’ pockets?

I’m looking for a few cattle at the moment to graze fields not yet fenced for sheep, and to get some mixed grazing around the place, but I just can’t pay the type of money being dished out in marts.

I’m an optimistic type but even I’m not that optimistic!
