Is this a thing? Have a Skoda Superb which makes a slight whining noise in first as revs raise, thought an oil change may help. Anyone know what's involved?

    2015 1.4tsi manual Superb 3.

    Cheers.

Car by car it can be little different but about 80 000 if you using the fully synthetic gearbox oil. All depends by driving style too.I prefer about 60 000. Oil is cheap

This car is low mileage, only 25,000kms. Not sure if is a characteristic of this gearbox or not.

I assume it is a procedure most indies would be families with?

Changing gearbox oil is usually simple job. Take out plug on the bottom, let it drain, put the plug back, and fill up through filling hole/plug.

However I strongly doubt there would be a need for that at 25k km.

If there's a whining noise in a gearbox at this mileage, I can't see any chance it being caused by oil gearbox oil.

More likely oil could be gone if there was a leak.

Tip = ALWAYS open the Filler Plug First then the Drain plug second;)
If the filler plug is seized after you've opened and drained the oil, your screwed:)

Typically these plugs are not seized if mechanics torque these back by right spec. The new car does not have a problem, the first gearbox oil change.
Because the manual gearboxes does not have a filter, there is reasonable to use the magnetic plugs if factory did not installed it.
