Currently in second year of a course that is supposed to "guarantee" employment as it's a high demand industry, also doing a night course to supplement that, but I have no work recent references (the last one was for a menial minimum wage job) and a spotty employment record. How can I mitigate these factors?

    How old are you?

What is the high demand industry?

I'm in a similar situation. Raised my littles and now it's time to get back into the rat race. I am also in year 2 of a 4 year degree and I have done some refresher computer/app courses. I've applied for many positions but never hear back.

So, I've started doing volunteer work while I'm job hunting. This gives me up-to-date working experience for my CV, and I'm helping a great cause with everything from admin to fund raising.
