Here's the poster. I think I'll go to this again, dates suit and it was great last year.

    Playlist for anyone interested.

Looking forward to knockan. Last year was amazing. I hope they have the Scratch and Eskies one after another like last year.

Fairly quiet on boards for Knockan.

Both a bad and good thing I guess. Anyone else heading ?

Quite devastated that the Eskies broke up and wont be playing, they've been a Knockan staple for 10 years :(

was forced to choose between atn and ks, atn won out unfortunately.

Yep, heading along but half our group has bailed this year.
One or two because the atmosphere where we were camped in the top campsite last year has turned them off completely. Tent robbings and fights and that ridiculous **** with the security banging around to wake people up from 7am on Monday morning.
One or two choosing ATN over it, but I shall be doing both myself.

Hoping to get back down to lakeside this year, we camped there in 2016 and was very nice, full of lovely people and nice tent neighbours. But we arrived early last year and were told it wasn't open yet they were waiting til the other campsite was full. Really looking forward to it!
Looks like they've moved the unfiltered stage from where it was last year and it might just be the way the map is draw but looks like dimestore has moved somewhat too.
I recommend everyone go see Senu. At a gig recently and was blown away.
Any recommendations?? - The Scratch and The Pale are deffo on my list.

Lakeside is the best campsite, agreed. The wake up on Monday last year was absolute bollocks. There were tons of complaints about it so hopefully it wont happen again this year. And I also notices the crowd in the main campsite was rough as ****. Especially closer to the Rasher factory end.

Looks like the Dimestore tent is now close to where Unfiltered was last year. and the Rasherfactory seems to have been moved too. From the map - looks like it might be a barn structure now so possibly something along the lines of the Haunt at EP.

The Scratch are top of my list, WOB! happyalone. and Wastefellow sound awesome too.

I cannot find out when its open. No responses from them on facebook.

EDIT:: Also check out Bicurious, No Spill Blood and Dead Label

Usually campsites open about 1pm, have been there for opening most years but only have the half day in work this year so will be probably up there for about 3 I reckon and hoping they'll have lakeside open :)
Love Bicurious and have heard good things about wastefellow but haven't gotten to a gig before so i'll throw them on the list. WOB supported me-felllaaaaz band last year and were great so have that down too. Missed TPM and Kneecap at body and soul so think I'll try catch them as well.
Also if any of you are not of the vegetarian persuasion I always recommend the cranky yankee for a corn dog.

buzzing for it myself - not heading down till Saturday but weather is looking really good for it!Last year was my first year and the line-up this year is insanely good. So much talent.

Hot Cops, The Bonk and Robocobra Quartet would be my (possibly lesser known) recommendations as must-sees.

The Thin Air made a good Spotify mix-tape of their picks - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/21jnh1JI43kAoiZSGtFQpg

haha I stand corrected. I had just looked at the daily boards weather thread, which is a bit ambiguous on its forecast now that I look back at it. Met is telling a very different story!

I went to see The Scratch play in Galway there a few months back, just on a whim, I knew nothing about them, but it was a free gig and I had a gut feeling they were worth a look.

My god, they were outstanding. Their energy, musicianship and ability to work the crowd was something else. One of the best gigs I was ever at, absolutely the best one that cost nothing!

Seemed to be a bit of a bad vibe in small pockets of the camping. I know someone whos tent was stolen, like they actually robbed the tent.

The 7am wake up was a disgrace. Priiiicks. Still fuming about it.

The forecast couldn't be more Irish for the weekend hahaha the little taunting pictures being a cloud a giant sun and raindrops all together.
Wouldn't be surprised if they just sprinkled a few lightning bolts and a snowflake in for good measure.

Boards weather thread is still giving quite a reserved forecast for Saturday and Sunday!

6pm on Saturday a mate of mine is running the Giant Wolf Theatre Company set. They get the crowd to tell stories and do small interpretive acts to it. It's pretty funny so i'd recommend it.

Did anyone catch Cula Bula last year on the main stage (Saturday around 2 or 3) ? They were savage - shame they're not reappearing this year. They seem to be total lunatics.

Has the Rasherfactory not been a barn the last few years?

Is there any restrictions for camping Lakeside? Like is it open for everyone/

Previously it was however last year it was a white dome sort of thing. I'd actually forgotten it was a barn before.

If you're in early they'll probably try to get you to goto the main campsite. I'd recommend ignoring them.

Surprised to hear there was trouble at it in the campsites last year, anytime Ive been its always been a good crowd. And what was with the 7am Monday morning wake up? If they had to clear it for cleaning youd think at least wait until 9 or 10am to wake people up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,054 ✭✭✭D.Q

the security were going around screaming at people, shaking tents, banging on pots and pans, basically starting fights with people.

Terrible end to a great festival. It was the private security firm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭Peesh89

A friend of mine was speaking to one of the organisers last week and they mentioned they had a new security team in this year and that some of knockans own crew would be "watching the watchmen".

Last year I thought someone was just still up and about, high as a kite hitting pots together and blowing a whistle trying to be gas until I heard it all kick off. Absolute stress of it... after a 3 day festival you need a bit of kip before driving home but the security were telling people to move on from 7 or so.. supposedly wasn't happening in the lower campsites and because knockan crew were in crew camping they weren't aware at the time and would have thought the security were doing their job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,717 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Surprised the organisers allowed them to do that, its definitely not the vibe of how they organise it

Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing.

Absolute ****. Delighted they weren't asked back. Were they a northern firm? Seem to remember the girl with them being particularly bad.

I don't mind the map its done like the Furry Freak Brothers comic. :) I presume Spirit Animal stage is the main stage.

Anyone know the name of the hip hop act that was on around 10pm last night on the Wishbone stage? Really good show they put on. Loved Bicurious too, great energy to them. The Caberet Show was class too, never thought I would see belly dancing to Faithless' Insomniac lol

Had a great time. You can't beat Knockanstockan. Weather was peachy on Saturday and yesterday was rotten of course though it did come and go. Tent got soaked. Spirit Animal main stage apparently got wrecked by the sideways rain so they put the rest of the main stage bands on the Faerie Field and Dimestore tent and slightly rejigged the original set times so twas grand, though it did lead to a big queue for the Dimestore tent which was full before Kneecap. I'd say some people were disappointed not to be able to fit in to see them or The Scratch. My band were playing the Dimestore just before them last night anyways so not complaining :D

My music highlights were The Bonk, Junior Brother, Jinx Lennon, Robocobra Quartet, Mango X Mathman, Lemoncello, Tribal Dance and Powpig. There was plenty of clashes going on and I left before The Scratch so didn't catch them unforch.

Great weekend although we did leave on Sunday afternoon - that was planned anyway before the rain hit and was raging to miss Senu and The Scratch.

A lot warmer, friendlier crowd this year than last year. It was very like old knockanstockans with a lot less undesirables around, definitely not as packed as last year too.
We got down on Friday afternoon, they tried to do the whole "lakeside is closed until this campsites full" thing again but I may have told a lil fib and said we had friends already in lakeside and the security let us down, it was fantastic. Lovely tent neighbours and so easy to walk along boutique camping area and end up in the festival itself.

They moved Dimestore tent in to where the Carlsberg Unfiltered was last year, then opposite that was a new stage Muthering Heights that had great tunes all night, a lot of 80s,90s pop and just well known danceable sing along type tunes. There was also the Kate Bush Angelus at 12pm, 6pm and 12am every day which was fkn beautiful. Wuthering Heights played and men and women in red dresses floated in to do a full choreographed dance. I wish they'd come in to work at 12 today to do the same.
The Carlsberg Unfiltered stage was moved to where Dimestore was last year and was bigger than last year, the stage wasn't a square in the middle either which was a strange move last year, half the audience was looking at the bands backs. All in all, the changing around of stages I think was a good thing, place didnt feel overcrowded at all.

They changed the Fairy field stage somewhat as well, adding a marquee/tarp type thing over the stage and in to the crowd which is great for a bit of rain but it kinda hindered the sound, we were at Nealo and it was very quiet if you were standing over towards the bar, nice and loud when you got under the tent bit. (he was fantastic)
The security team were all fantastic and great craic, felt safe all weekend but not like you might get tackled to the ground for dancing on a bench.
Saw Mango x Mathman on Saturday night, honestly am not mad for them when I hear them on the radio etc but blew me away live, great energy and the crowd loved it. Food wise, Cranky Yankee corn dogs and big blue bus kept me fed gooood all weekend. Bear Grillz (I think it was called) did delish skinny chips and a few of my friends got their burgers and also cheese and bacon fries and went back two or three times for more. Wastefellow were unbelievable as well, Wob! were great at Wishbone stage and we saw Junior Brother on Sat afternoon, the field was full for him!
I'll wrap this up with a bit of a funny story.. We copped on the friday evening that there was a few wasps around the camp but didnt question it really, we were getting on with it and just kinda swatting them away. The Saturday when we were sitting around, one of the group got stung, and another friend that was visiting our camp commented on the amount of wasps. Everyone just going oh yeh, we noticed, its weird, do you not have any over at yours? We laugh and comment that they're our friends now and we're living in harmony, just before my other half gets stung.
On the Sunday morning, about 2 hours before we leave, we realised that when we arrived in the campsite on Friday, after we'd set up our tents and copped that there was a funny shaped hole in front of one of the tents, we all stood in it checking our foot size compared to this hole (don't ask, it was just one of those things that started)..... The hole was a fkn wasp nest. We only realised two hours before we left that we camped around a wasp nest, and had been bloody standing on/in it. We watched them go in and out of it all morning and wondered how the hell we didn't notice it before. Anyway.... I'll stop rambling now. Time to sort my life out before ATN.

Jaysis, how times have changed. In my day a funny story regarding a festival would involve psychedelic drugs, losing all your friends, swapping your trousers with a random stranger and waking up in another county. :D

One of the best Knockans yet. Crowd was amazing and as mentioned - there was a lot less scauldy knackers there compared to last year.

The Unfiltered stage was absolutely brilliant this year, some seriously good DJs playing in it. Good Name closing it on Sunday night were absolutely unbelievable. Cabaret show was excellent fun too. Shame about the main stage on Sunday, still managed to get into the Dimestore to see The Scratch though.

Anyone see a those potato babies around the place?

We met the potato baby as a grown man!!!
Our first sticker sighting was on Saturday morning a guy came out of a toilet and giggling to himself and ushered my boyfriend over to the toilet to show him something saying "this is great you have to see this it's made me so happy" so we were thinking a beautiful clean loo. But it was a potato baby sticker on the inside of the door. Saw one or two after that and then later that afternoon we were approached by two guys asking did we want a sticker and one said he was the actual baby :D
