Getting import duty refunded

    Hi all,

I bought goods on Amazon which I want to return. I paid circa €20 on import duty to get them in to the country. I am now refunding these goods as they were the incorrect product. I asked Amazon to cancel it when I realised but it was too late.

Anyway, does anyone know if I can get these refunded or will I be stung with the cost?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello!

Was it delivered by An Post or a courier?

I applied to Revenue for a refund on the import duty & VAT around the 8th of January.

An post charge a fee of €10 so you'll probably end up getting a tenner back.

It was DHL. I might apply to get the tenner back even and I think Amazon will pay me back for the postage costs of returning it too? If I'm lucky I'll recoup even the €31 quid it cost me for the second one

I actually made an absolute mess of the whole thing.

I saw a headset on Amazon.com for 40 dollars and then bought it and it added 20 dollars for import and a few quid miscellaneous so it came to €60 total.

Then I saw another one one Amazon.co.uk for €31 including delivery so I bought it too thinking I could just cancel my order, as I had seen it had not been sent for delivery. I wasn't able to cancel it, for some reason, and then someone at work signed for the delivery. So I'm in the stage of the best way to get as much of my 60 quid back as I can haha.

Lesson learnt anyway to shop around before making a yolo purchase.

I heard that for couriers the fee is €8.

I'd say definitely apply to Revenue for the refund anyway. I actually got my refund today:) I was weeks waiting though!

An Post is €10. Couriers are €12.50-15.00

Did you pay the courier who delivered the parcel or did you pay in advance via amazons global shipping program? If the latter it is amazon you should be contacting.
