    "Canada’s answer to Tesla is a $15,500 electric three-wheeler"

Firstly, the ignore the sub-ed's over-blown headline. Secondly, dismiss any thoughts of the Sinclair C5.

"As General Motors prepares to shut the plant near Toronto that got car-making started in Canada more than a century ago, a new model is taking shape in a tiny production facility in Vancouver, B.C.’s outskirts.

Meet the Solo — a one-seater vehicle made by Electra Meccanica Vehicles that costs $15,500. By December, 5,000 will be zipping around the streets of Los Angeles, with an additional 70,000 to be delivered over the next two years across the West Coast. Electra Meccanica may have a market value of just $142 million, yet it has $2.4 billion in preorders."

"It charges in three hours, has a 100-mile range and reaches a top speed of over 82 miles an hour. "

“This company is producing the car that Elon Musk wishes he were building,”says Jerry Kroll, founder and chief executive officer.

That’s hilarious. 15k for a single seat 3 wheeler? Is there really a market for that?

They have two other models in the works, which seem more promising:

How can they even try to compare a 15k single seater to a car?

    Thats 75k for a 5 seater.

The roadster looks gorgeous in a retro way - but would those bumpers pass safety regs?

BTW I assuming the single seater's price is in CAN$ so that's 10k Euros.

I'd say it would be considered a replica car that doesn't have to pass modern safety regs.

The clip says is a reproduction of the '59 356A speedster "meticulously assembled to the original specifications"

Gorgeous is right, wonder how much it will be? A lot less than a converted real Porsche 356A for sure!

I love it - and I totally get it too. No wonder they have 2+ billion worth of pre-orders. I am a motorcyclist, so this sounds like ideal commuter. Okay, you can't squeeze past traffic blocks, but filtering is illegal is most of the US, so they won't miss that aspect. Unlike a motorbike, there's protection from elements as well.

If they can make that single rear wheel steerable as well or perhaps they can make it lean like the carver it's going to be so much fun!!
