How soon is too soon to book time off after starting a new job?

    Just wondering as I'm almost 3 months into my new job and haven't taken any days off since starting as I guess I'm still trying to "prove" myself and finding my feet. What is the general consensus?

    0 days after starting. If I changed job, I'd get my holidays in ASAP. First come first served on these things. It allows the business to plan around the holidays also. No point in you taking on a big project if you're on holidays for 2 weeks in the middle, or it can serve as a deadline for yourself to get a big project done before you not around.

    I would just ask a colleague whats the procedure for booking annual leave, as mentioned the sooner the better. As for proving yourself I would almost think the opposite is true if you are there 3 months and looking to book a time off in Aug at least it means you are settled and see a future with the company..

    First step in accepting any job offer is letting them know what holidays I already have planned, effectively making them a precondition of the employment.

    As mentioned above, take the time off, just make sure you follow the procedure. Some bosses like you to ask them first, others don't mind you just firing the request through the HR system.

    Tbh, people who don't take holidays and put in extra hours don't get promoted, they get walked on.
