Oligodontia in child

    Hi,
My child has been diagnosed with oligodontia, and is missing over 6 permanent teeth. This will involve extensive orthodontic work and prosthetic implants and will be very costly, I’m speaking here from experience as I have the same condition and was diagnosed in my late teens and I estimate that I’ve spent €15000 so far and I’ve a couple more implants to go! I know in the UK this condition is classed as severe and is covered by NHS but I’m not sure how much would be covered by HSE here. He is 9 and has just been diagnosed privately as he hasn’t even had a school dental visit yet..... just wondering if anyone has any experience of this?

Yes I have treated many cases, its a specialist job usually handled in the Dublin or Cork dental hospital, the HSE usually cover the costs of this. I would ask you general dentist or orthoodontist to refer you into the hospital ASAP and they will come up with a plan.
