Misuse / non use of indicators

Two examples of this slapdash, and increasingly prevalent approach to indicator use, both frequent occurrences, I am sorry to say.

    1. I was waiting at a roundabout, which had 4 exits, at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 0'clock positions, ( the roundabout at Wesley college on the Dundrum bypass, many of you will know it) I am waiting at the 6 position, intending to turn right, and exit at 3 0'clock. There is a constant stream of traffic entering at 12, in the right lane with their right hand indicators on, but actually exiting at 6, ie. going straight ahead. I see one car, not indicating right, so I prepare to enter the roundabout. Guess what ? .. he is actually turning right, ie. exiting at the 9 0'clock position

    2. A few minutes later, I am at the T junction at Rockbrook, this is a very tricky uphill hairpin left turn, which involves turning into the opposite stream of traffic coming down from Cruagh, while on full lock, and carefully coordinating the clutch and throttle. I edge out looking to my right. I see a car approaching, as he is not indicating left, I stop to allow him right of way. Guess what ?... he actually turns left, leaving me in mid manoeuvre, when I could in fact have completed it, had he indicated left.

Where do they get them from ???

Never trust an indicator or the lack of it. Too many people don't know how to use them, or don't care.

Nothing remotely unusual or new about any of that.

Regarding your second scenario, even if the car approaching had used their indicator it is a very bad idea to pull out based on that, if they plough on and hit you it will be you in the wrong regardless of the indicator being on.

Ah that corner at Rockbrook is fairly painful alright, but indicator or not you should have waited as you did, you just can't trust that they'd actually turn. As for your first scenario of people indicating right to go straight. I see it all the time, and I'd swear the number of people doing it has increased over the years. Most drivers are idiots, the more you take this into account on the road the safe you'll be.
