Plans have been published for a minor realignment of the N22 Killarney "Bypass" at the junction of the Lewis Road and the Kilcummin Road where there have been severe safety issues including the death of a cyclist last year.

The plans include the construction of a roundabout on the N22, moving the Kilcummin Road approximately 400m to the east to this roundabout (a roundabout cannot be constructed at the existing junction due to the railway), and the removal of right turns to and from the Lewis Road at its existing junction with the N22.

NIMBY'ism has already reared it's head here, with one resident objecting to the pedestrian underpass, claiming that it will be a magnet for anti social behaviour. Despite the fact Kerry CoCo have said it will be fully illuminated with CCTV linked directly to the Garda Station.
