Just used Motorcheck and it does not give the NCT history which is no use if you want to check what repairs have been carried out as it should tell you every failure and reasons plus the advisories. This is free public information in the UK so why is it secret here? Or will the NCT office let this information out to current owner?

The uk info online is only a trial as far as i know.

NCT don’t even have a proper feature to check the expiry date of a cars test beyond having to pretend to book it in for a test.

Uk mot website isn’t a trial as it’s been up and running over 2 years

Nct here refuse to share any info with third parties as they claim “data protection” which doesn’t hold water as they’ll happily print mileage readings on piece of paper displayed on windscreen that anyone can view.... bunch of twats

The data belongs to the vehicle which has been transferred to a new owner therefore that is not a valid argument for with holding it. Every time I buy a car I get a load of bills and history which helps with provenance for future owners and helps prove I am not covering up something dodgy. Passing that on to a buyer is therefore in breach of data protection using that argument?

Data protection applies to personal information, name, date of birth etc, mileage data is not personal data and therefore can and should be made available as there’s no legal basis to withhold it

Over the phone? You were lucky, usually it needs a visit to the centre and a note discretely pushed through the hatch in an envelope.

I emailed our wonderdul Minister for Transport Shane Ross about a year and a half ago about making NCT records available online . If he responds I'll post his reply.
I think this is a matter of public safety and a complete "no brainer".
Maybe a few more queries might nudge him into action.
