Hi just have a question regarding HEAR. I'm not sure if I'm hear eligible, I'm probably not but would anyone have any idea? I meet criteria 2, 3, and 4 (medical card, means tested social welfare payment and socio-economic group)for sure but I'm not sure if I meet the income bracket.

Last year my dads' gross income was 58,000 and I just fit under this category requirement of below 59,700 to be eligible (6 children and 2 siblings in college). However I just noticed that HEAR only want your parents' income from 2017 and not last years', in which my parents gross income was 59,900 (just 200 above the bracket), my parents income dropped as my mother was sick and my dad had to take off work to be with her so because of that his income was less last year. Basically I would be eligible based on my parents' income from last year but not 2017. Is there anything that I can do or am I ineligible? Thanks for your help.

Get an accountant to work the books. If you are earning close on 60k you can afford it.

Dont really think it's fair of you to say something like that..you don't know their circumstances...

What does him being able to afford it have to do with anything? If I'm not mistaken is HEAR not just giving people an opportunity who are in struggling circumstances a chance to get their college course even if they don't get the points for it? Maybe I'm mistaken but I don't believe if you are eligible for HEAR you actually get college free. That's the SUSI grant I think.

OP, what year are you hoping to go to college? 2019 or 2020? If the latter, strongly suggest you attend the HEAR information days and ask their people directly.

Thanks for the replies, well most of them. The HEAR website says that they calculate it on gross income but I realized that it's actually calculated on net income which is a huge difference to the figures I gave in my original post. Bit unfair for people who might have just read that it's calculated on gross income and given up straight away. Thanks for everyones assistance.
