Hi all. As above. Anyone have a recommendation for a particular brand or model of fault finder? Are they a useful tool and worth the expense. I'm having difficulty pin pointing a fault at the moment, so thought one of these might be worth the spend. Thanks!

I had the one below a while back and found it very good.

Lent it to a neighbour and never got it back but it sorted out where I was making a mistake in looking for a fault.

An ordinary reader will do the same job once you can isolate sections of fence and check each piece separately.

If you wanna be totally cheap ass apparently a spark plug with an earth wire works well enough ha.

I have the one Buford mentioned and I think it’s a grand job. Gives a level 1-9 of a fault and the general direction of the fault.

I didn’t pay that for it but I reckon the shop had a misprice at what I paid- €40 about 3 years ago

Have used Pakton and Gallagher fault finders. The Gallagher is easier to carry in pocket. Not as durable as Pakton hence I am back to original Pakton after two Gallagher.

Yeah, I couldn't find a fault in a line and it showed up that the cable under the gap into the field was shorting. I have most of them in 3/4" plastic pipe now.
It saves a lot of time in searching for where the wire is shorting alright.

yeah especially at tees you can stick on the yoke and you know which line the fault is on
