Charge cable stolen

If you're using a non-tethered home charger with separate cable, it's a good idea to padlock the cable to something.

    From the IEVOA FB group:

Not sure about Type-2 cars and their locking mechanism, but the Leaf 24/30 (Type-1) "lock" can be defeated with a matchstick, so don't rely on it.

I'm waiting to hear about a charge point to be stolen... those ones with a single grub screw securing them to a backing plate I reckon will be first.

Type 2 would be locked to the car, but only when you're plugged into the car for charging. Which is not the case for me for 95% of the time when my untethered cable is only plugged in at the charger end. I have locked it to a tree, but I will have a review of this over the weekend. My cable is 15m long, thus had to be custom made and was expensive. Thanks for sharing.

Thought: maybe I'll make some markings on the cable. Then when it will show up for sale on Gumtree / Donedeal as the only 15m cable for sale in the country, I'll shop them to the Guards :D

I guess that due to the amps they deliver, these cables have a lot of copper in them.

More valuable as charging cables rather than scrap. As unkel stated above, likely to be sold on.

That sucks. I have mine locked in place but locking is just there to deter a casual thief. Should probably tie the cable to the dog. And then one day find that both the cable and dog have been taken.

Fcukers, unfortunately they are easy prey when charging is complete, not sure there's much to be done, even if I put a padlock on the charger end sure a large wire cutters would take care of that pretty quickly.
I doubt someone would go to steal a charger though, it's a live socket, surely an electrical shock risk

Overhead power lines are being stolen all the time...

    And more:
In 2016, an attempt to steal parts of a live substation at Inchicore in Dublin lead to an explosion which cut electricity supplies to some 120,000, and cost ESB Networks €10.5 million in repairs, the network operator said.

I had my two cables stolen from my car. Any ideas of the best place to replace them from? I'd prefer to get them from reputable sources... It's for a nissan leaf

    Sorry to hear that.
Did they break into your car? If so, were the cables exposed or did they specifically intend to steal the cables?

If it's a newer Leaf, there's a new 10m Type 2 cable here, from a reputable seller .

Check if you have contents cover for car on your car or even home insurance, however it may not be worth the claim. There is a few. Irish companies that specialise in EVs and they all supply cables, such as in Dublin, Naas, Athlone. You can also buy online from UK. Depending on age of leaf you may need type 1 (older) or type 2 newer. You should also consider an extra long cable. These can be handy if a car is blocking slow charger spot, so you can park 3 or 4 spaces away and connect up.
