Ideas on a dress watch

I'm going to buy a dress watch this weekend - my current preference is a Seiko Presage Cocktail Time (286 EUR from Lowry Jewellers) - only reservations on this are it is on the big size for a dress watch (I have a 6.5" wrist) and I already have a few Seikos.

Any other suggestions of that I should be looking at?

Happy to consider second hand too - budget is 500 EUR ish but flexible

Have you considered Vintage? Some really nice Omega's available around this price point. Even lower for vintage Longines.

Price in the cost of a service and possible refurb and you've got a really nice watch.

+1 on the vintage. Longines worth a look as well. Depending on how old:o you are you could match up a serial number to the year you were born.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Snap for the Longines. I was thinking I should have mentioned them, went back and edited post and in pops a recommendation for a Longines :D

Thanks - good ideas. Birth year is 1988 so not a lot in vintage on chrono24. Will have a look for a few Longines or Omega local to me though

Look up Longines calibre 994, 990, 99x they were the last in house Longines watches, they finished up making them in the 1980s. They were the slimmest auto movement for a long time, might be nice in a dress watch. After that the movements were used by Lemania and I think Bruguet. I'm not sure if you'll stretch it to 1988 though:(

I had a quick look on ebay to find an example, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Longines-Automatic-L-994-1-25-jewels-4397-2-994/273676945211?hash=item3fb86ac73b:g:tSYAAOSwfplcLLD5:rk:5:pf:1&frcectupt=true

€300, you could ask the seller for the full serial number, then ask Longines historical section for a date for when it was produced. It will take a few days for Longines to get back to you, but they don't charge for it.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I have been considering buying a watch for a while now after lurking here for a while. I had the Presage on my list but the blue faced one with the bracelet. I see it is 330 including delivery there in Lowrys, which I think is a good price, can anyone confirm 330 would be a decent price for that watch? I was mostly seeing 400 in other places.

Thanks for all the suggestions - likely going to go for a mechanical Omega Geneve from 1969 (and serviced last year). Might still leave budget for the Presage Cocktail Time too

It was a bit less in Lowrys last week (think 277 + delivery) but that particular model generally doesn't seem to get reduced in many places

    The price is incredible.

This is what I consider my dress watch, but I think a good bit of price creep has hit it.

I live in France so bought it on a second hand site here. Seller seemed to be a watch enthusiast (judging by his Instagram) so that allayed fears of too good to be true a bit. There were a few around in a broadly similar price range but this one was in good condition plus had the service and receipt for it so went for that one.

Similar in Ireland would be around €800+
