    Hi All,

I am looking to see what people think is the best of the Qashqai competitors for a 2 child family? Ideally looking for something a bit bigger than the usual cross over especially in the boot.

    Any thoughts?

Well if you fold down the extra seats in a Tarraco, X-Trail, 5008 etc you'll get a much bigger boot and have some for the friends of kids etc

Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tiguan AllSpace would be the next step up in terms of space.

The karoq would be the competition for qashqai

I keep getting drawn to the Honda CR-V

Ateca, kodiaq, 5008 are all models I'd consider

The 5008 and the Tarraco looks really smart. I don't think Ive seen a Tarraco on the road though yet.

I cant seem to find either of them on the NCAP ratings site - which would people think is the safest? Considering its a family car

Only the ateca is in the same class as the qashqai

Sportage would be a good one, we have both and way more space in the kia (plus the warrenty)

I disagree. The Skoda is just as good if not better as it has the better more modern dash and interior.
The 3008 and 5008 are much better and say even the class leaders and are far more modern than the now long in the tooth Qashqui. Even the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson are better than it now.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I think he means they’re in a larger size class.

The Kodiaq and 5008 compete with the X Trail not the Qashqai.

If you like the CR-V there’s a hybrid (that actually runs in hybrid mode 90% of the time) about to go on sale. Had a spin in one today. Whatever NCAP the Kodiaq has would be the same for the Tarraco I’d imagine.

Not sure where you’re based but I’ll have a Tarraco next week and if you’re in Dublin you’re welcome to a look!

    Peugeot 3008 or Skoda Kodiaq

If you hae Qashqai and are happy with it and just want something bigger then go with X-Trail.

If you want to swap to something different then you are looking at Kodiaq, 5008 etc.

I didn't mean "class" as in top class

The kodiaq and Peugeot 5008 are way bigger than the qashqai

    That is what I meant

The 5008 and kodiaq don't compete with the qashqai, the ateca and karoq do or the Peugeot 3008

Is it a PHEV or hybrid the R-V?

space wise there doesn't seem to be a huge difference (20cm longer wheelbase) between the 3008 and 5008. boot space in the 3008 vs the Qashqai seems pretty good to.

anyone had any experience with the 3008 or the 5008?

We had an old model Qashqai and gave us nothing but trouble hated it.We replaced it with a new 3008 and honestly its a great car. Its full of tech and my wife loves it .I drive a Kuga so think its not great space wise as the Kuga is much bigger but my wife thinks it's a good car for a young family

any reliability issues with the Peugeot? I was talking to a mechanic today who advised strongly against the Peugeot 5008 and 3008 for reliability reasons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 514 ✭✭✭argentum

To be honest its so new that if there are any inherent reliability issues they mightn't have shown yet. Its unlikely to win so many awards if it was as bad as the mechanic thinks it is.
I think certain brands have real issues( I don't know why but I'd never buy a Fiat ) and maybe people are biased against the older models of the brand.
One issue with the 3008 that I think is that it doesn't have a glove box because that's where the steering column is in Europe in case that matters

It doesn't matter which car brand you go with, you can always end up with a lemon. The chances are very very slim.

Any discussion I had with people is the Nissan are rock solid

That said my bro has the older 5008, got from UK with about 80k miles on it, he must have nearly 200k miles on it now and apart from services it has been grand, now clutch is on way out but you would take that at 200k miles

I have the qahsqai+2 (we've two small kids) , it does make a difference to the standard model. I'd go for the Xtrail if you are looking for something much bigger though.

Apologies badly written the first time...it does indeed have a glove box but not very much usable space behind the lid.

I keep the service book in the glove box....what else would you keep in it?

    Gloves
    Baby wipes
    Various random things

    Wouldn’t get much into this

I would say less space in eGolf because the media console is slotted into it

Baby wipes etc are in the door pockets, I love a big door pocket
