Overseas Police Vetting Checks

    Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes.

Im aware that vetting is required for any overseas country you've lived in for 6 months or more. Does this mean 6 continuous months?

I backpacked in Australia for a period. Initially arrived and spent 4 weeks there before returning to Ireland for a month. Then went back to Australia for 5 months. Only lived at one permanent address for 4 months or so. Does anyone have experience of this? I've no problem obtaining the vetting if if I have to. But would rather avoid the hassle if I can.

    What is it for?

If it's for a job, then its a tick the box affair for HR - a letter from the police saying you have no criminal convictions.

Yes it's for a job. I understand what it's for. Someone has said to me it's for 6 continuous months or more (I effectively holidayed there for 4 weeks, then backpacked for another 5) and I'm just looking for clarification on this. It's a hassle and expense I'll avoid if I can.

Visiting isn't living in, I would have thought. I would view 'living in' as having a fixed address and renting, at a minimum.

    Is the job in Ireland?

I've had to get one of these non-criminal convictions things twice. I've lived and worked in a lot of countries, but I only got the document for my time in Ireland. No problems at all...

Seems to be some confusion, sorry if I wasn't clear.
When applying for Garda Vetting you must include all overseas addresses at which you lived at for 6 months or more, and then obtain police clearance certs from the relevant countries.

My question is, do you obtain vetting from the country if you never lived at any address for as long as 6 months, but spent 6 months or more living in the country? I lived/travelled around Australia for 6 months but had various addresses.

    Seems straighforward to me.

You didn't live at any overseas address for 6 months or more. Regardless of how much time you spent in the country.

It doesn't say anything about a cumulative 6 months collected over a period of time.

    I wouldn't include it.

The alternative is to include the address and get the clearance - but you didn't live there for 6 months or more. So why would you?
