Thought this was an interesting read. Think it may have been a little more accurate by considering one of the more realistically ranged cars (Kona/Leaf62), but think it shows where things are going certainly!
    • Carbon emissions from transport are a big contributor to global warming, but have been rising in recent years in the European Union
    • Vehicles are also a source of much air pollution, which causes 500,000 early deaths a year in the EU
    • The study examined the purchase, fuel and tax costs of Europe’s bestselling car, the VW golf, in its battery electric, hybrid, petrol and diesel versions...over four years
    • In Germany, France and the Netherlands, the saving varied from 11% to 15%.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I knew that before I bought my EV :p

Paid about the same as a well specced diesel family size car would cost. After that there are massive savings in fuel, depreciation and maintenance

I paid about €30 for fuel for the first year I owned the car, my car has only depreciated about €2k in two years and I have spent €0 on maintenance and servicing. Cheaper to own than a banger.

Interesting that plug in hybrids are more expensive to own than petrol in most of the countries (unless I'm misinterpreting that graph).

Can I ask what type of EV did you buy? Thinking of purchasing one, amazed at how many Leafs are now being sold by dealers having been brought in from the UK. Wonder if many of them have been crashed etc?

It can depend where your terraced house is, we're in an estate which has not been taken in charge and were able to install a kerbside charger. It took negotiations with the management company but a few people have been succesful. If you are in a council are you will have a much harder time.

The previous poster was not talking about council and private houses. He was talking about the paths and roads etc. The council usually take charge of estates after the development is settled. If there is a management company for your estate, you negotiate with them. If the council are in charge.....good luck.
