E46 320CD boot switch not working

    Hi folks hoping someone here can help.

    Basically the switch that opens the boot stopped working.

    I removed the inner carpet and outside trim that holds the switch in place. I disconnected the wire coupler connection and checked for corrosion which there was none. When putting the coupler back together the switch clicked - I thought I was in business and pushed the coupler fully together, however the switch failed to work when clipped fully in.

    I tried uncoupling it and recoupling it again only for the same thing to happen...as in the the switch operated when the coupler was only partially pushed in and then didn't operate when fully inserted.

    Any ideas?
