Hi guys, car is a 1.9tdi BKC Passat B6. I noticed a sudden loss of power so I lifted the engine cover and had a look. Turns out the oil cap support fell off and was just sitting there. I refitted it and took for a drive and the power is back but it's shooting oil out of the same spot now. Was there some sort of seal on this or how does it fit back?

Your cylinder head gasket are blown. Do not drive before it are replaced!!!

What brings you to the conclusion that the head gasket is gone ? Have you any pictures im not sure really what your talking about. I have the same engine and car is literally bullet proof

I think you mean figuratively bullet proof.

The shooting oil and lost power. Yes the bad PCV valve can cause too popping out the oil cap but never shooting the oil out. Your cylinder head gasket are blown hole from cylinder to any oil channel and it pressures the system. Very dangerous because you lost the proper oil lubrication and the oil level can drop very fast.

Before the cylinder head gasket replacement you can make the leak down test. It proofs my theory is right or wrong and may be save your money. If you find the leaky cylinder then pump the smoke to that cylinder and retest it. Where ever goes smoke out, there is your problem.

Also just to add I found grey sludge under the oil cap but no drops in coolant level at all ever. I've been told the grey sludge could be moisture getting into the oil which makes sense if my oil cap seal wasn't secured properly, but on the other hand sludge under the oil cap is usually an indication of head gasket failure.

The sludge is another kind of problem. It means you did not replace the oil on right time, draived too short distances or way too long idle. Start and stops causes that too

Sludge and loss of coolant can also be an indication of head gasket leak, because coolant and oil mix.

No drop of coolant, it means it blown only to oil channels. On both situation you can not drive anywhere before the gasket are replaced.

Well I deleted the oil cap support and instead fitted the oil cap right on top where the support screws in, no oil leak now. Car is still misfiring or hesitating when under acceleration though until about 3k rpm then it gets all power smoothly. I'm assuming the sludge under the oil cap is from short journeys because I live about 5 minutes from work and that's all the car does.

If you take every single weekend couple hundred kilometer trip, it can clean the engine. The short distances are good only for hybrid or electric cars

So my mechanic did a fault code scan and what came back was a turbo overboost fault. Turbo has recently being reconditioned aswell. This explains why the car was going into limp mode and juddering with no power. Question is what to do now? I know the turbo is probably under warranty but that means having to take it back out and bring it back to the place that done the turbo I suppose.
