You need to safely get power externally, so decent extension cord unwinded and cover any blocks from the elements.

    Yes, heavy duty extension lead.
Yes, it's ok to charge in rain.

I’m in same position while waiting for socket. Have a waterproof outdoor extension lead. I put this in a small plastic basket on a couple of bricks with another larger heavier plastic box over all that to keep rain out. Might be overkill but it’s peace of mind that it’s unlikely to get in contact with water.

I just passed the cable out the window out front for a few months, no issues

its not a fully closed in porch is what i mean but it stays dry

Per slave1, a simple out the window approach works fine for me when I need to do this

The cable should be fine in the rain

my granny cable wont reach the driveway from out of the window without an extension lead so i have to use one
btw the 13 amp lead i was using today was getting hot after 4 or 5 hours use, not the entire lead just the socket but even then im a little a little worried,

If your extension lead is hot then it’s a problem. Don’t take chances with electricity.

If it’s not fully uncoiled the cable can melt as it can’t disapate the heat. Are you sure it’s rated for 13A? I think it has to be 2.5mm.

It shouldnt get hot. Warm is OK but not hot.

If you know how to wire a plug I'd open the plug and make sure its all tight.

If its an old extension lead the pins could also be worn which causes more heat.

And also make sure the lead you are using is rated for 13A, not 10A. It should have 3G1.25mm written on it for 13A. If you see 1mm you need to stop using that.

    EDIT: Snap with stimpson

And also completely unraveled if its wound! My mother powered a berko from a wound up extension lead once, the entire thing melted into a solid mass.

    Here's a similar example.

    Edit: double snap

the extension lead is 13 amp and is not wound up { its not a wind up type } and i made sure it wasnt all bunched up but spread out as much as possible, but it is old, i dont know how old but probably more than 10 years.i was wary of leaving it plugged in over night so unplugged at about 2 am bedtime. the socket inside the house wasnt hot, the length of the cable wasnt hot just the socket on the extension lead.maybe time for a new cable ? or am i being a bit ott
