Hi all - I need to get some work done on our heating system, as we're not getting as much out of it as I'd like. Live in a small (approx 95 square metre) house that I've been told has three zone heating, but a main thermostat with only one zone, so would like to upgrade to electronic, modern controls. Also need valves replaced in our hot press. A plumber told us we should also get radiator thermostats added while we're getting the work done, much cheaper than getting them done with the other work than later on.

So I got a quote for the following work:
    1. Supply and installation of a Electronic three-zone controls
    2. Supply and installation of three mortised valves for the hot water tank in the hot press
    3. Supply and installation of one cylinder thermostat
    4. Supply and installation of two wall thermostats
    5. Supply and installation of one automatic bypass
    6. Supply and installation of six radiator thermostats
    7. Supply and installation of one smart phone control

Total comes to approximately €2k. Just want a sanity check on this, as I'm a complete amateur when it comes to these kinds of things!

I did a similar upgrade a few months ago except internet controls and radiator TRVs(already had them installed)

Replaced existing 2 motorized valves(ground + 1st floor) and added extra 2(attic and hot water) + 3 wireless thermostats(with receivers included) and moved the existing boiler timer to hotpres for controlling hot water only.
I've opted for salus thermostats (RT510RF no internet control) as they are cheaper but plenty of functions.

    All radiators already have TRVs.

Total for parts I think it was around 400euro

3x motorized valves around 45euro each(an old one was still working)
2 thermostats (had one already) - around 80 euro both
hot water cylinder thermostat 10 euro
    bypass valve -17 euro
    magnetic filter 110 euro

pipes and fitting free from a neighbor(maybe add up to 100 euro in your case)

    Did the installation myself.

Depending on your current setup parts and labor might be up to 1000euro.

have 1 wireless thermostat at each floor

1 in the kitchen or living room(depending where we are downstairs)
    1 in the main bedroom
    1 in the converted attic

TRVs are fully open in the rooms that have thermostats.

If you are interested I can post some photos with my setup.

2k I think is way overpriced.
I think there is a 600euro grand available for upgrading heating controls, have a look.

P.S. All work above took me around 1 week as a DIY.

The price is a bit high alright. I think you will get better value than this.

Draining the system does take a bit of time and work. But I wonder if it is actually worth doing at this stage.

You could put a basic control on your heating to allow you control it from an app for a much lower price and this might give you most of what you need.

I would really look at whether this is the best way to spend 2000 euros (or even 1000 euros). If there is any project you can do to improve insulation it would probably give a better return. You could draught-proof and secondary-glaze most of the windows and insulate the attic, or replace two windows or a window and an external door for the same sort of money.

Little bit on the high side, what smart controls are you getting?
If you are eligable you should definitely Apply for the grant, you can get €750 back if you are eligible.
