That's painfully subtle. Changed the front bumper, messed with the lights a bit and moved the badge to the center of the bootlid.

The interior looks identical bar a new steering wheel?

Analogue clock looks to be gone now.

    From Autoexpress:
Design tweaks inside are also discreet, but the cabin is packed with much more tech than before. The most notable introduction is the optional Digital Cockpit. The 11.7-inch display replaces conventional analogue dials (a first for the Passat), and is a step up from the Active Info Display found elsewhere in the VW range. It gets sharper, higher-contrast graphics and more customisation options.

The top-line 9.2-inch infotainment screen is said to have a more intuitive user interface. An always-online capability allows for more precise real-time traffic updates, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be synced wirelessly (another VW first) and the smartphone cubby has a USB-C connection.

The IQ light system looks quite good if it works as good as the computer graphics show it does. That MIB3 infotainment system with multiple screens looks handy...radio, car info, phone info all sharing the screen....

Never been a fan of the Passat and this won't win me over. Inoffensive and dull. The estate version looks absolutely woeful though.

That's the same interior. No major changes there other than tech. They just filled in the clock position with a Passat badge.

Yep, the major changes are to the tech which is starting to filter down from the likes of the new Tiguan. Upgraded infotainment system, optional matrix led headlight, etc. Presume the engines will be tweaked also with the 1.5 replacing the old 1.4 petrol, did they drop the 1.6 diesel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,730 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Yep I didn't see 1.6 diesel on recent Passat price list. That said, it's getting pricey at circa 38k for a 2.0 tdi highline

It looks very similar to a Ford Mondeo.

Nice car though, I've the last version myself.

Oh wow....it’s looks just like the last model. It must have taken a lot of work to build a different car but make it look more or less identical to the outgoing model. Well done VW, impressive **** ya got going on there.

That is one boring looking car, new toureg is the only VW model I find appealing at the moment

Not a massive difference to current interior either. The upgraded infotainment was standard in Ireland since 172 Reg unlike UK where it was only optional. Looks to have gone another slight step up again mind. Interior of passat really impressed me...in full highline spec.

It's a facelift, not an all new car. I'd argue other manufacturers are worse in this regard. Bmw typically might add spec, and a few chrome trims. Mercedes can sometimes have facelifts that are difficult to spot even to car fans. Audi and vw at least go for full new bumpers and headlight shape. Not a lot more that can be done while keeping the body panels unchanged.

Is the Passat driver the kind that listens to Sean O’Rourke, gets excited by the late late show, lives for the dunnes stores specials and drinks instant coffee???

Meh, VW's are overrated and overpriced these days.
