    Hi,

I just got quoted 220 euro for the supply and fit of a new outside tap.

This seems a bit pricey. Does anyone know the going rate for fitting one of these??

    Thanks.

Excellent. That sounds like a better option.

    50 euro? That floored me.

It's been a long long time since I did one of these but you must be looking at 10 to 20 euros for pipe & fittings alone.

I'd have thought 100 /120 euros supply and fit would be a good price.

I'd be VERY wary of anyone offering to do this for 50 euros

I got this deal before, 3 years later no issues.

As I said I'd be VERY wary of letting anyone charging 50 euro for a job like that anywhere my home

The price really depends on the situation.

e.g. Are you trying to put a tap at the end of your garden that 50 feet from anywhere or are you trying to put one on the wall outside your kitchen tap?

Also, what construction is your house?

The lad getting €50 probably isnt going to be too concerned about your insulation, vapour barrier or thermal bridging.

The lad for €220 might not either but thats up to you to ask, for €50 it doesnt even come into the picture, he is just going to screw in a fitting that punctures an existing copper pipe and lash it through your wall.

Jasus that was quick with a news article!!. Not sure if this was the guy as i just searched "groupon external tap" as an example. But i take your point.

My main point was OP being ripped off with 220 to drill a hole and connect a waterpipe, we got it for about 50 quid with no problems.

Can't understand how any tradesman could fit an outside tap for €50. The tap, pipe and connectors would come close to that.
If it's a fairly straightforward "drill through the wall, tap into a handy pipe and fit the tap" then €220 sounds about right. If it involves digging through a path, long pipe runs etc. I'd expect it to be a lot more.

I found it quickly because I have seen his handy work before.

Plenty of Dublin plumbers have repaired his handy work. He's well known in the industry & no stranger to court.

When you search for him, take a look at the bottom of the results. "some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe". He has had older results removed under the right to be forgotten law. In a few more years he will have these 12 convictions removed from the search results too.

If it seems to good to be true then it usually is.

So... any recommendations for someone to fit one in the Tallaght area?

Hope it's ok to hijack the thread -

I have an outdoor tap, and have since build a shed about six meters down the garden. Now I think I'd love to put a sink in the shed in a few years.

This would mean going through a concrete path, five meters of garden and then into a steel shed (concrete foundations).

I would expect the cost to be prohibitive to be honest but wonder if you would hazard a very rough estimate?
