9 bars on Leaf - how good/bad is that?

    Hi
Just saw a Leaf for sale, with 9 bars. What does that mean - will the battery go to zero soon? Or is it that the range will decrease rapidly now?
    Thanks in advance?

    Terrible.
It means the battery has lost 1*15% and 2*8% bars of capacity, or 31% of original range and capacity is gone.

If you can live with <75km range and it's super cheap (say like 4-5k) then go for it but otherwise to be avoided

What year is it ? how many kms ?

Capacity loss is usually faster for the first couple of years then slows but a car that has 70% capacity could still be perfectly usable for 5 + more years depending on your needs.

The battery won't just die but loose a little capacity every year how much is anyone's guess but it's usually the worst in the first couple of years.

Thanks for the replies. It is 2011, 96,000 Km, 24 KW, originally a UK car.
I can live with say 75 Km range, but could it go lower than that?
    Thanks again

It will continue to drop as each year passes.

Careful so as depths of Winter range will be close to or below that soon in that car

Was gonna post this in the Nissan Leaf thread (probably will anyway), but will throw them here too.

Have 9 bars on my 2011 Leaf.
Passed the 180k km mark the other day.
SOH on LeafSpy is saying 67.6%.
After giving her a full charge, LeafSpy says the SOC is 94.5%.

Using LeafSpy to read SOC (as opposed to the GOM), I can comfortably get 60km between charges. If I'm a bit careful, I can get 70km.

So OP, if the car is cheap and suits your needs, you should jump at it.

Well done on reaching the milestone, 200k in sight!

Something not quite right there though, 180,103km/976charges = Average of 184.5kms/charge just looks way off

As a matter of interest how is the QC (32) and L1/L2 (944) figure so low for a car that has covered 180k kms?

Mine has 80k kms and the equivalent figures are 62 QCs / 2,563 L1/L2s. Mine's an L30 with 91% SOH and current cold weather range of approx 130. Now I charge mine twice every work day (i.e. its charged to 100% each night and topped up by approx. 20% during the day) and once a weekend day

That's probably me faffing around with LeafSpy and clearing codes/errors?

I know on my L24 it counted every charge twice, I wouldnt rely on those counters for any sort of accuracy

    Careful with 9 bars!
I bought a 9bar Leaf in the UK a few years ago and it more or less gave up the ghost after 1 year!

Do you use the timer? If you do, it'll count both when you plug it in, and the charge itself, as separate charges.

Any link to the car for sale, demello? I doubt you'll get it for €4k

My L30 has 40k km, 174 QCs and 686 L1/L2, not online so can't see the SOC when fully charged

Yea I use the timer every night and override the timer for the top up

There was a glitch in the Firmware in my 2015 that would count every cycle twice on AC. Not sure what years this effected.

It also doesn't mean much because if you plugged in for 2 mins it would count as a cycle.

Same on DC if you charged for 5 mins that counts as a cycle.

That happens on all Leaf's even the L40.

If you have a timer set and you plug it in it interrogates the charge point to see what power it can deliver and that is counted as a charge session and then obviously the charge session itself later that night so every day the count goes up by 2.... if you have a timer set.

It won't sell for less than 5k, even at 5k it would be bargain

That's a great car for someone only interested in school runs, trip to shops, popping around town etc.
Cavet that it would probably need to be charged to full every night especially in this weather.

Note, it's a v early model, may not have rapid charger on-board

Exactly why I looked at it, would have been handy but that little bit too much for a run around.....

    Agreed.

I would also stay away from the fast charger as much as possible because as the battery ages it's internal resistance increases and the battery will warm up faster and faster as it deteriorated further.

Fast charge when you really need it, charging will also get slower and slower as time goes on.

If you have to fast charge daily then I wouldn't do it unless you needed 5 mins max.
