Booking flights for family hold to either Alicante or Malaga in mid July after which will get an Airbnb within 1-2 hours of the airport. I have never visited either areas and just looking for recommendations on which would be better. We like nice interesting towns with nice restaurants for evenings and will book Airbnb with a pool but good local beach also ideal.

So that said do I book my flights via Malaga or Alicante? Just looking for ideas. Thank you

PS: will most likely rent a car.

The journey from Malaga to La Carihuela (between Torremolinos and Benalmadena) is an easy journey. We stayed in the Plazamar apartments with sea view. Great.
    or
Travel on down to Estepona. You can get a bus from Malaga airport direct to Estepona bus station. Beautiful old town.

For Alicante I would travel to Altea, longish journey from airport. Stoney beach but beautiful old town.

However, I would recommend Ibiza and the Santa Eularia resort or Port de Pollensa on Majorca.
