...or do you clam up and get tongued tied and flustered, kicking yourself you didn't think of a good response in the heat of the moment...I think I've improved with age and not let the jibes get to me giving a more measured response...and you?

About 3 hours later I'm very good with some great responses. At the time, not so much.

I usually just cry, I can't help it. It's very frustrating, coz then people feel sorry for me, and I'm not upset, just MAD!!!

I'm really good after them when I'm mumbling to myself of how I could've won it.

No. My pet hate in arguments is arguing with someone who always wants the last word

Much better in written arguments than in verbal arguments. I have time to think. Plus I'm not great in face to face arguments as I have quite a feminine voice - do you know just how much people take a female voice less seriously in an argument? Even if your arguments are actually great. Meh. I'm coming back as a man next time.

It's all about finding that sweet spot between crying and anger. :)

    Pretty good yeah.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Add being under 5ft and in a male dominated area to that!

I'm good enough in person but can rarely be bothered here lately. I'd often see something I know is wrong but I know that if I engage it'll turn into a tedious exchange that I lose interest in very quickly. Plus I don't have the energy for arguments or disputes, even of an amicable nature, these days, life events have me slightly withdrawn in general.

As the years go on I care less and less about how I do in arguments.

i tend to leave things for 48 hours while throwing in a touch of silent abuse and then come back after the 48 hours and surprise attack them when I have everything i thought of in order, along with the well articulated replies I got from the thread I created on boards.

I've always envied that sort of rapid 'on tap' articulacy required to be regarded as a 'strong personality' or someone good at arguing, they must be cool as cucumbers beneath the angry surface in the way psychopaths are described. Another theory is that these people are 'lifed up' by a pair of cynical parents who have them ready for the world by school/work age.

Yeah, pretty good. I used to play devil's advocate for a couple of years with two friends, and I can recognise BS pretty easily. Fallacies and putting words in my mouth don't really work.

I used to be deadly at debating when I was in school/uni and good at barstool arguing but am way out of practice.
Trouble is that people seem more polarized and less willing to have their mind changed.

Not really, especially online. As you get older, you lose the moral conviction and tenacity required to see out arguments to their logical conclusion, which generally means one person just being able to argue and multuquote the longest and bludgeoning the other into surrender while everybody else has fled or fallen asleep.
