Opel Corsa or Renault Clio?

Hi, i was thinking of buying a 2016 Opel Corsa 1.4. How would this compare to the renault clio? I like the look of the renault clio but the Opel Corsa seemed quite roomy to drive and powerful enough on the 1.4 engine 4 cylinder engine. Opel corsa would be cheaper to buy and costs less to tax even on the bigger engine and bhp. Which is more reliable? I guess it's hard to tell on the newer cars.

    Thanks in advance.

The Corsa is a very good car indeed, in every sense. It tends to get overlooked nowadays because the current model has been in production for so long, since 2007. With the more powerful engines it drives and feels like a much bigger car and not a cheap (relatively speaking) supermini. The interior design and layout is excellent, really spacious and comfortable and there are no reliability issues associated with the model. As regards the Clio, I just don't know because I've never driven one. I much prefer the taller body shape and overall look of the Corsa though. Both would be regarded as good mechanically and reliable.

Wife has a Clio for 4 years now, great car no complaints , nice size etc. But the engine is slightly underpowered for the weight of the car in my opinion it's a 1.2 petrol. This being said it's certainly not a unique issue , there are plenty of its competitors with the exact same issue.

Thank you both. Went with the Corsa in the end and i'm happy with it :) I was going to have a look at fiestas too but the price difference brought me back to the corsa. Clio is a nice looking car but just couldn't go with the 1.2 75bhp. The corsa also was cheaper on tax for the 1.4 engine.

Just one thing on the Opel Corsa... my wifes 2007 1.2 Opel Corsa had serious subframe corrosion which was caught by the NCT and instantly rated as dangerous.

Luckily there's a 12 year corrosion warranty and she bought it from new, so the dealer/Opel replaced the subframe, about €1k of work.

Anyways, just something to keep an eye on for older Opel Corsas.
I saw reports of similar issues with 2007 Corsas on a UK site for MOT testers where they started seeing a batch of the same issues.

Just got the same from the NCT on my 2008 Corsa D subframe but I dont have it from new. Finding it very hard to get hold of someone in my nearest Opal dealership to talk about the 12 year corrossion warranty - think maybe they are dodging me.

Out of interest why should it matter if it's "bought from new"?

Surely a warranty is a warranty no matter who owns the car.

Update: Local Opel dealer has just agreed to replace the subframe for free under warranty on my 2008 Corsa. They didnt ask about how many miles on the clock or servicing. Just wanted to know if it was imported. Result!

Maybe they’re erring on the side of caution these days.

They probably don't want to jump from the fire into the pot.

Car passed retest with brand new subframe no problem.

If it wasnt for this forum I would have scrapped the car.

    Thank the Lord for boards.ie.

Only issue with my opel corsa sine i bought it is the back seats not reclining. Seems to be a common issue from checking on google but is very annoying.

There are so many Corsa's for sale. They seem to be great value. How do they fair on regular long journeys? They look like a super mini but at 1.4l on a lot of them, they sound powerful.

Only 2c. I've rented both Corsas and Clios. The Corsa feels a sturdier car. I thought the Clio of recent years felt cheap and flimsy.
